Teaching

Opening intellectual doors and increasing comprehension of real-world phenomena are the primary focus of my job in the classroom. I invite students to engage in ways that meet their needs and interests, requiring both individual and small group work. A major goal of mine is that students come to class because they have a desire to learn, create knowledge, collaborate, and share – not because they feel pressured to pass the class or get the ‘right’ grade. I achieve this with a classroom that is very hands on, making adequate use of classroom response systems and on-the-spot student surveys to get people out of “infinite browsing mode” and focused on the topic at hand.

Economics of Social Issues (Econ 101)

Semesters Taught: Fall, 2024

Students Enrolled: 165

Overview: I designed this course with a two-fold intention: 1) introduce (mostly) first-year undergraduates to the discipline in a fun and engaging way; and 2) increase enrollment in the Economics major. With financial assistance from the Office of the Provost, I worked with a curriculum specialist to design a course that had students “doing economics” while writing consistently.
